(Harlingen, Texas)-At Boggus Stadium, the Weslaco Panthers (4-2, 0-1) held on to a slim 7-3 lead at the half before the Harlingen Cardinals (6-0, 1-0) came alive in the second half to win 31-21 in District 32-6A Conference openers.
In the third quarter, Harlingen quarterback Randy Morales broke loose on a 27-yard touchdown run and then threw a 62-yard bomb to WR Paul Price in the fourth quarter to take a nine-point lead. The Cards, leading 21-12 handed the ball to RB Izaiah Bell and he would score on a 44-yard run, untouched to make it 28-12 over the Panthers. The Cards ended the night with 416 total yards on offense while the Panthers were held to 316 yards.
The Cardinals will travel to play Brownsville Hanna while the Panthers will play host to the Los Fresnos Falcons. Both games will be played next Friday night.
