(Pharr, Texas)-The Edinburg North Cougars (6-2, 3-0) are headed to the University Interscholastic League football playoffs for the first time since 2019 by defeating PSJA 18-8 on Thursday night at PSJA Stadium in District 31-6A. With the win, the Cougars will play Edinburg (5-3, 3-0) next Friday night at Richard R. Flores Stadium for a possible district title. ”It was a great win for our football program,” says Cougars head coach, Damian Gonzalez. ”Our kicker did an outstanding job tonight.”
Cougars soccer player and field goal/kicker Ramiro Vargas had a big night. A really big night. He made six field goal attempts on seven tries from 23, 28, 29, 31, 35 and 36 yards.
The Cougars also relied on the running from RB Ulysses Melendez (6’1 200lbs) who rushed for another 175 yards on 24 carries before leaving the game with a pulled hamstring. ”He will be okay,” says Gonzalez.
