(Brownsville, Texas)-The Brownsville Porter Cowboys had their opportunities as they led 13-7 at the half against the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets on Saturday at Sams Stadium. In the second half, it was all Yellowjackets as they went on to win 24-13 to remain in the playoff hunt in District 15-5A DII. The Cowboys (4-4, 0-3) have two remaining games against Flour Bluff and Mercedes, with slim playoff chances.
The Yellowjackets were riding a four-game losing streak, including 157-36 scores under head coach Victor Cardenas but Cardenas remained optimistic throughout their losses. “I always tell my players to play hard no matter what, anything can happen,”said Cardenas. And it did happen win Saturday morning.
The Yellowjackets (3-5, 1-2) will travel to play Mercedes HS (3-5, 1-2) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for a third place seeding in the UIL State 5A DII playoffs. Both teams are tied with Valley View HS, all at 1-2.
