(Harlingen, Texas)-In the Blue Diamond Realty Group Game of the Week, Harlingen High School head football coach Manny Gomez proudly hoisted the “Battle of the Arroyo” trophy above his head to show all Cardinals fans that they defeated District 32-6A rivals, San Benito 37-21 at Boggus Stadium on Friday night before a sellout crowd of more than 12,000 fans.

The win keeps the Cardinals (8-0, 3-0) alone in first place and will meet Brownsville Rivera this Friday night while the Greyhounds (7-1, 2-1) will play host to Los Fresnos (6-2, 2-1) for second place. Harlingen, San Benito, and Los Fresnos have clinched playoff berths.

On Friday night, it was junior quarterback Randy Morales putting the Cardinals on the scoreboard early with his 66-yard touchdown run and RB Izaiah Bell better that run with a 92-yard burst for another Cardinals score to make it 13-0 in the second quarter. Bell would added three more scores for the night as he finished with 24 carries for 288 yards. Teammate Morales added 11 carries for 124 yards to finish the night.

“This was a great win tonight and I’m proud of our team,” said 15th-season head football coach, Manny Gomez.
