(Mercedes, Texas)-Most prediction polls, including HSSM, picked the McAllen Bulldogs (1-2) to beat the Mercedes Tigers (1-2), but, Mercedes High School head football coach Roger Adame proved everyone wrong by taking down the McAllen Bulldogs 48-37 on Friday night at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers amassed 566 total offensive yards against the Bulldogs, including 418 yards rushing on 51 carries with six touchdowns.

Known for as a passing team, Adame had to make some adjustments with his offense after being blown out by Harlingen 76-21 last week. In turn, Adame discovered a brand new running team with plenty of speed. Tiger WR/RB all-purpose player, Tyrell Trevino rushed for 171 yards on 21 carries, including two scores to lead the Tigers. WR Xavier Sanchez rushed for seven carries for another 102 yards with two more scores and WR Ethan Anciso added 95 more yards on the ground with two touchdowns.

The Tigers will get on the road with non-district games at La Feria (2-1) on Friday and Sharyland on Thursday night, September 22nd. The Tigers will open District 15-5A Division II conference play at Valley View (0-3) on October 7th. The Bulldogs will begin District 15-5A Division I Conference play at home against HSSM’s No.1 team, PSJA North (3-0).
