(Pharr, Texas)-The Port Isabel Tarpons defeated the Valley View Tigers 13-12 on Thursday night at Tiger Stadium in non-district to remain undefeated at 3-0 while the Tigers dropped to 0-3. ”Our defense played lights out and allowed only less than 150 yards,” says Port Isabel head coach, Tony Villarreal. The win gives the PI head coach 210th career wins.
The Tarpons took the first lead of the night with RB Tristan Garcia scoring from five-yards to make it 6-0. The extra point was no good. The Tigers answered right back with a score to tie the game at 6-6 when Tigers return specialist, Danny Negrete ran back the kickoff to the Tarpons 28-yard line. A few plays later, the Tigers would score on a one-yard TD.
For a moment, the Tigers shocked the Tarpons by taking a 12-6 lead but the Port Isabel Tarpons responded with the game-winning score in the fourth quarter to seal their third victory of the season. The Tarpons ended the night with 321 yards rushing on 49 carries with junior RB Andrew Le Blanc leading the Tarpons with 114 yards on 14 carries.
Port Isabel will travel to meet Brownsville Veterans Memorial in non-district action next Friday night at Sams Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Valley View will play host to Sharyland Pioneer (3-0) on Friday night. (HSSMImages)
