(Weslaco, Texas)-Harlingen South High School senior, Julian Hill is headed to the University Interscholastic League’s 6A Region IV Track and Field Championships after winning the 31/32 6A Area Championships in the shot put event on Thursday at Bobby Lackey Stadium in Weslaco. “This is a great feeling,” says Hill. “Now, I can focus on getting to state.” On his six attempt, Hill let loose with a heave of 56’8 1/2″. “That throw was sweet,” added Hill. Harlingen High School senior Nathan Huerta finished in a second place tie with Gerry Garcia from Los Fresnos HS with throws of 51’2″. The tiebreaker went to the scorecard with Nathan’s next best throw, and he did that on his first attempt with a 50’11”. Garcia’s best second throw was 49’4″. “Going to regionals baby,” said Huerta. Izaiah Bell, also from Harlingen HS, finished fourth with a throw of 50’7 3/4″. Only the top four finishers from each event advances to the UIL 6A Region IV Track and Field Championships on April 29-30th to be held at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. (HSSMIMages)
