(Weslaco, Texas)-At Bobby Lackey Stadium in Weslaco, sophomore Jazmine Thompson from Harlingen High School heaved her shot-put 41’7 1/4″ to win the University Interscholastic League 31/32 6A Area Shot put title to advance to the 6A Track and Field Regional Championships at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Texas on April 29-30th. “I’m shocked,” said Thompson. ” I was so nervous and now I’m going to regionals.” Also headed to the regional championships for the second straight season is Harlingen South HS senior, Jasmine Ortiz with a throw of 40′ 3 3/4″. “Going back to regionals is awesome,” said Ortiz. Junior Karina Alavrez from Los Fresnos (38′ 3 1/2″) finished in third place followed by fourth place sophomore Natalie Jimenez (37′ 4 1/4″) from Edinburg Economedes High School. “I told the other three qualifiers that being nervous is part of the game.
