(Falfurrias, Texas)-On Tuesday night, the 29-5A Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles (31-7) flew past the 31-5A McAllen Memorial Mustangs (21-14) 81-65 in the University Interscholastic League’s 5A Region IV Quarterfinals. The Eagles will play San Antonio Veterans this Friday night at Northeast ISD Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. in the regional tournament. The winner will play McAllen or Boerne Champion on Saturday in the championship game.

First-year head coach Rick Trevino led his Mustangs to a surprising 45-37 lead at the half and at the start of the second half, the Eagles went to work and never looked back, exploding for 44 points to advance to the Sweet 16 round this weekend. Veterans Aiden Guerra led the Eagles with 32 points while the Mustangs had four players in double digits with Arian Elizondo leading the team with 18 points followed by Alex Hougro 14 points, Rsendo Martinez 12, and Jalen Muhammad (11 points. The Mustangs led by as much as 14 points in the second period over Veterans.
