(San Antonio, Texas)-At the buzzer, Hardin-Jefferson (34-4) fell short by one point as they made a three-pointer, only to lose to Brownsboro (40-2) HS 50-49 in the University Interscholastic League Class 4A Girls Basketball finals at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. “We changed our game plan at half time and executed it in the second half. That was the difference,” said Brownsboro HS head coach, Jeremy Durham. This is the Bearettes first school state title.
With nine tournament appearances, (1984, 86, 88, 89, 91, 2001, 19, 21, 22), Hardin-Jefferson HS head coach Mike Fogo watched his team miss six free throws and convert only 3-of-17 3ptrs which proved to be the difference in their loss to the Brownsboro HS Bearettes.
It was Brownsboro (UIL tournament appearances 1967, 81, 88, 94, 2003, 06, 22 ) tough defense throughout the game, forcing 12 turnovers despite their 18 turnovers too. Mekhayla Moore had 19 points and was named the Most Valuable Player. She also had 14 rebounds with three steals. Teammate Paris Miller added 20 points and was perfect from the free throw line going 4-4. In all, Brownsboro made nine free throws out of 16 attempts.
The Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks were led by Ashlyn Jackson and Kendall Sneed, both with 17 points each. (HSSMImages/Ruiz)
