(McAllen, Texas)-The Edinburg Vela Sabercats (21-6, 6-0) survived a scare as they defeated PSJA North 60-49 in a key District 31-6A game on Tuesday night while the High School Sports Magazine’s No.1 ranked McAllen Bulldogs lost to unranked McAllen Memorial 74-73 in District 31-5A.
Three Sabercats scored in double figures with Aidan Avelar leading the way with a game-high of 24 points while teammates Alec Mancias scoring 11 points and Tony Requena adding another 10 points. The Sabercats will move on to meet La Joya at 7:30p at Coyote Gymnasium on Friday night in a key battle.

On Tuesday night, the McAllen Bulldogs and McAllen Memorial Mustangs clashed with its own never-say-die rivalry and games like these, McAllen head coach Ryan Flores will tell you that “anything” can or will happen. And it did, as the McAllen Bulldogs (20-7, 3-1) led by as much as ten points in the fourth quarter but the Stangs came galloping back to with Arian Elizondo making a steal to up their lead 74-70 with 19 seconds left to play to end the Bulldogs win-streak of eleven games. McHi still did not give up as Jaylon Chappell nailed a three pointer to close the Mustang margin to 74-73.
