(Waco, Texas)-One more time. The 25-6A Austin Westlake Chaps (14-0) are headed back to the University Interscholastic League State 6A DII Championships after defeating Katy 45-14 in the state semifinals to set up a showdown with Denton Guyer next Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The Chaps will be vying for its third straight 6A title.
One more time. The Chaps will try to send off head coach Todd Dodge with one more state title before he retires after their state championship game. For Dodge, a win would mean seven state titles in his career. He won four titles at Southlake Carroll and two with the Chaps.
Westlake QB Cade Klubnik quickly put the Chaps up with a touchdown pass to WR Pierce to make it 14-0, and WR Jaden Greathouse caught another touchdown pass to put the Chaps up 24-0.
Both teams entered the game with 14-0 records and the Westlake Chaps, with their win, upped their win streak to 39-straight games.
“It would be nice to win another state title,” Dodge told HSSM after their regional win over PSJA North. “This group is special.” (HSSMImages)
