(Pharr, Texas)-On Friday night, the Edinburg Bobcats (5-5) punched its way into the State 6A Division II Bi-District Championships with their 51-20 win over PSJA at PSJA Stadium. “This is what I have been talking about. It’s all on us and we did it tonight,” said Edinburg Bobcat head football coach, Rene Guzman. “This is incredible and I give credit to my staff and team.”
The Bobcats will now travel to play 32-6A Harlingen (7-3) in the Class 6A Division I Bi-District Championships this Saturday at Boggus Stadium with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. The winner of this game will meet Laredo United South (7-3) or SA Harlan (6-4). The Cardinals defeated United South on August 27th 35-10 in their season opener.
Senior QB Roland Abrego led his team in the first quarter to 7-0 lead and on the kickoff, PSJA WR Viggo Lopez sprinted 98-yards down the sidelines to score. The extra point was missed, Edinburg led 7-6. Again, the Bobcats would answer right back to take a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
