(San Antonio, Texas)-At Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, the 16-5A DII Tri-Champions, Mission Veterans (8-4) played its 12th game on the road this season with hopes of playing a 13th game but, that ended with a loss to Marble Falls 35-13 in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 5A Division II Area playoffs.

The Patriots had no choice, but to play all of its home games on the road this season due to faulty construction issues at the newly re-designed Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium. Instead, the Patriots and head coach Dave Gilpin ran a muck, to win a share of the District 16-5A DII title and a 5A DII Bi-District title in 2021. “We just play the game,” said Gilpin. “We would have loved to be playing at home but it is what it is, and our team adjusted. I’m proud of our boys.”

Marble Falls (9-3) from District 14-5A DII jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and led 21-7 at the half. In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs built a 35-7 lead until the Patriots scored late to end its playoff run. Patriots quarterback Ricky Reyna ended his night with 235 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a 63-yard score to WR Enrique Ordaz. Overall, Reyna finished his season with 2,648 passing yards and 27 TDs. The Mustangs will play 15-5A DII Alamo Heights (12-0) next week in the 5A DII Regional Championships. (HSSMImages/MannyRuiz)
