(Roma, Texas)-For the past 16 years, Roma High School head volleyball coach Angie Garcia knows that her Lady Gladiators are more than just a team. They are true Gladiators off the court too. “We teach our team to clean up after every game. We don’t leave our trash behind. We help these custodians at every game, to pick up our leftovers,” adds Garcia.
As for the players reactions? “They are used to this because I implement these responsibilities with our team every season,” says Garçia.
With only two games left against Laredo Cigarroa and La Joya Palmview, a win will get them back into the playoffs for the first time since 2014, most importantly, head coach Garcia will continue to teach her team about representing Roma HS anywhere they will travel. “We try to clean up our areas around our bench. We do the same with our buses too. It’s our trash. Empty water bottles, it’s our responsibility. As coaches, we do the same. No trash is left behind,” laughs Garcia. (HSSMImages/RomaISD Vidal )
