(Donna, Texas)-The McAllen Memorial Mustangs (6-1, 6-0) continues to roll behind junior quarterback, JP Cortez who rushed for one touchdown and threw for another as they defeated Donna (1-5, 1-5) 42-14 to remain in first place in District 16-5A Division I. With the loss, the Redskins have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and added two more scores in the second quarter to lead 28-0 at the half. Cortez passed for 52 yards, all in the first half, while Ethan Castillo rushed for 151 yards on 19 carries and one scored to lead their Stangs. “Last night’s win was a team effort,” says Mustang head footballl coach, Moses Patterson. “Offensively, everyone chipped in putting up over 400 yards while our defense, led by Marcos De Ochoa, limited the Redskins to less than 175 total yards.” The Mustangs will travel play this Thursday night vs Brownsville Veterans Memorial High School Chargers (5-2, 5-1) at home in a district title showdown. “We have a very big game this week against a tough Chargers team on Thursday night.
