(Hidalgo, Texas)-Whew! What a game! Mission High School quarterback, Kevin Guerra led his team to the finish by scoring the game-winning touchdown in a 28-24 come-from-behind win over the Edinburg North Cougars on Friday night at Bill Pate Stadium in Hidalgo.
With the win, the Eagles (3-1, 2-0) remain in first place, tied with Edinburg Vela (4-0, 2-0) in district play. Guerra had spectacular night, passing for 302 yards and rushing for another. He also passed for four touchdowns. “This was a great night. What a come back,” said Daniel Longoria, head coach of the Mission Eagles.
On the Eagles first possession, Guerra found WR Eduardo Garcia for a 45-yard touchdown on their first drive of the game. The Cougars would answer right back on their first drive to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter. The Eagles continued their air attack with Guerra connecting with WR Josiah Guzman for five passes throughout the night for 125 yards, including a 64-yard bomb.
Down 21-10 in the third quarter, the Cougars made a run in the fourth quarter with quarterback Evan Medrano leading his team, eventually taking the lead at 24-21 with 6:31 left to play.
