(Port Isabel, Texas)- “We are getting ready for the football season and hopefully, we can play all ten games,” says second-year head coach Tony Villarreal. Port Isabel HS was sidelined for the season last year after playing just one game due to COVID-19. “It was a tough year for our team and parents,” adds Villarreal.
The Tarpons will play host to St. Joseph Academy on August 27th in non-district action followed by another game at Valley View HS on September 3rd. “It’s a tough district with this new realignment in District 16-4A Division II,” added Villarreal.
Port Isabel will play in a eight-team district which includes teams from the Corpus Christi area. “We play five games in the Coastal Bend area this season,” says Villarreal.
Players to watch are WR Daniel Zamarron, RB Gilbert Medina, OL Jayden Gonzalez, QB Evan Gonzalez, TE Fernando Romero, and QB Rudy Barrera.
“More and more players are coming out for our football program. We have been knocking on doors to get our Tarpons back on the field,” says Villarreal.
HSSM picks the Tarpons to finish in fifth place in 16-4A DII.
