(Rio Hondo, Texas)-The last time the Rio Hondo Bobcats played a football game was on November 22, 2019 against Navarro HS in the UIL State 4A Division II Area Championships. The Bobcats lost 42-13 after finishing in second place with an overall 6-5 record. “It’s been a long wait,” says head coach Rocky James. “These players need to get on the field and start picking up experience.”

The Rio Hondo Bobacts cancelled their 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic but, since then, doors have opened up this past spring, and this Bobcat team has hit the strength and conditioning programs with James and his staff. The Bobcats look really good.

New faces will emerge this season as they get ready for their first non-district game against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln on August 26th at PACK Stadium. The Bobcats will also meet PSJA Memorial and Brownsville Rivera before opening District 16-4A Division II at home against Corpus Christi area, Ingleside High School on September 24th. Rio Hondo will feature a huge offensive line with Rogelio Garza, Scott Atkinson, Michael Garza, Sam Tagle, and Brandon Sandoval. At quarterback, prospect Ruben Atkinson is the front runner to lead the Bobcats in 2021. “We’re excited to get started again,” says James.  HSSM picks the Rio Hondo Bobcats to finish fourth overall.
