(Port Isabel, Texas)-Port Isabel HS head coach Tony Villarreal notched his 199th career win after defeating Brownsville St.Joe 54-6 on Friday night at Tarpon Stadium. “It’s been such a long year,” says Villarreal. “I lost both of my parents and I still have not stopped mourning for them. My Dad was my best friend.”
Villarreal accepted the position of Athletic Director and head football coach last season but the COVID19 pandemic sidelined the Tarpons like many other teams in 2020. “That was tough to see many families suffer during the pandemic,” added Villarreal.
Next Friday, the Tarpons (1-0) will travel to play Valley View High School (0-1) next Friday night with the longtime Rio Grande Valley Hall of Fame inductee looking for win No.200. “That will be special. I wish my parents could have been here to see win No.200 happen this week or sometime this season,” adds Villarreal.
