(Monte Alto, Texas)-For the third straight season, the 16-3A Division II Monte Alto Blue Devils will have it’s third new head football coach, Gene Garza. The Blue Devils returns eight starters on offense and defense in 2021 after going 0-4 last season. Players to watch on are OL Juan Marroquin, QB Noah Prince San Miguel, OL Juan Gallarado, and WR Julio Marroquin.
The Blue Devils will kickoff its season with non-district games against the Premont High School Cowboys on August 27th at home followed by a road game against Santa Maria High School on September 3rd. The Blue Devils will open District 16-3A DII on the road against Skidmore Tynan on October 1st.
If the Blue Devils can take advantage of their returning starters on Friday nights, the new head coach could possibly lead them to the UIL State Football playoffs in 2021. The Blue Devils are 5-19 for the past three years. Odem is favored to win the title.
(Santa Rosa, Texas)- The Santa Rosa Warriors will compete in a seven team District 16-3A Division II with Taft, Skidmore-Tynan, Odem, Monte Alto, Hebbronville, and Banquete. Last season the Warriors finished 1-3 under head coach Hector Ayala. He has since departed.
The Warriors return five offensive starters with six on defense. They will rely on QB Diego Flores and WR Diego Cruz while LB David Bazaldua and DB Jayden Olivarez will head the defense.
Santa Rosa High School hired Joe Marichalar as the new head football coach. He comes from Edcouch-Elsa HS and Donna North. With just weeks away from two-a-days, the Warriors will have to put a team together.
“We need to get this team ready,” says Marichalar. “We have a lot of work to do.” Warriors play Lyford on August 27th.
