(Brownsville, Texas)-At Sams Stadium, the No.3 Mercedes Tigers (1-0) overcame early flags in the first half to knock off No.8 Brownsville Hanna 42-14 in their season opener. “It was tough,” says Tiger head coach, Roger Adame. Senior QB Michael Cisneros had a big night, throwing for four touchdown passes of 50, 81, 42, and 8 yards to lead the Tigers. The Tigers jumped out to a 28-7 halftime lead after Cisneros connected with Xavier Sanchez for a beautiful 81-yard touchdown pass and Sanchez would catch another 50-yard TD to end the half. WR Joseph Rocha also caught a 42-yard pass into the end zone from Cisneros as the half ended. “I was real pleased with our team,” adds Adame. “It was a long first half filled with penalties.” The Tigers will play host to Edinburg North (1-0) next Friday while the Hanna Eagles (0-1) will kickoff their second game at home next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (HSSMImages/RickiEscobedo)
