(Edinburg, Texas)-Make that six wins for McAllen High School head football coach, Patrick Shelby as the Bulldogs (1-0) defeated Edinburg High School (0-1) 14-6 in their season opener played at Richard R. Flores Stadium on Friday night. Shelby, entering his third season as the Bulldogs head coach, won his sixth career game with McAllen to up his overall coaching record to 6-12. The Bobcats, coached by first-year head football coach Rene Guzman, held the Bulldogs to 14-0 at the half and a forced fumble by defensive linemen Yael Herrera, picked up by teammate Jonathan Duran and he would score to trail McHi 6-14. McAllen HS quarterback Hunter Curl threw for two touchdowns to lead his team. The Bobcats will travel next week to Brownsville Rivera in another non-district game next Friday while the Bulldogs will open their 16-5A Division I season against McAllen Memorial.
