(La Joya, Tx)-Margarito Requenez enters his seventh season as the La Joya Palmview Lobos head football coach with five playoff appearances.
The Lobos returns A.J. Chapa at running back (5’9 190lbs) along with five more starters back on offense. The Lobos will be favored to make another playoff run in 16-5A Division I with its powerful Wing-T Offense.
Last year, the Lobos finished winless during the COVID-19 season and Requenez says it was challenging. “We were hit hard during the pandemic and we managed to play three games with limited players,” adds Requenez.
On offense, the Lobos will feature another talented running back, George Speidon (5’7 165lbs) with a clocked time on the 40-yard dash at 4.6 seconds. Other players to watch will be quarterback Christian Reyna, WR Tony Villarreal, DL Ezquiel De Hoyos, LB Ramon Garcia, and OL Manny Garcia. Palmview will compete in the newly realigned 16-5A Division I ten-team district and HSSM picks the Lobos to finish in third place this season.
Palmview will play La Joya in non-district action on August 27th at Pack Stadium followed by District 16-5A DI games against McAllen Rowe (9/3) and at McAllen Memorial (9/10) in that order.
