(Donna, Tx)-Second-year Donna High School head football coach Mike Gonzalez enters 2021 with plenty of experience returning on defense as the Redskins begins their quest to make the University Interscholastic League 5A playoffs. “We will be experienced on defense,” says Gonzalez. “Its a tough district and every game counts.”

The Redskins returns only five offensive players from last year’s 2-4 season. Losses to McAllen Nikki Rowe (44-0) and McAllen (56-7) kept the Redskins out of the playoffs.

Returning are DL Lupe Ramos, DB Francisco Contreras, LB Ryan Ramirez, OL Juan Vargas, OL Josh Navarro, RB Luis Silva, and LB Matthew Lopez.  Head coach Gonzalez will look to Alex Sanchez and Jake Garcia to fill the quarterback position. In six games, the Redskins rushed for 1,152 yards  and passed for another 634 yards for an average of 297.0 yards per game. Defensively, the Redskins had 545 tackles or 90.8 tackles per game.

The Redskins will play Donna North on August 27th on opening night and then travel to play Weslaco East on September 3rd in their 16-5A DI opener.
