(Rio Grande City, Texas)-Making the change from baseball to softball has been a blessing for first-year head softball coach, Roque Cortinas. He led the Rio Grande City Lady Rattlers (23-7) to a perfect 16-0 in District 30-5A. Now, the Lady Ratters are on the verge of making history as they meet 25-5A Liberty Hill Lady Panthers (25-6-1) tonight in a winner takes all one-playoff game, the UIL State 5A DII Region IV-Semifinals at Beeville HS 6:30 p.m. Winner will meet Leander Rouse or Corpus Christi Carroll in the State 5A DII Quarterfinals next week.
The Lady Rattlers lost to Hendrickson, Boerne, SA Churchill, and El Paso in non-conference action. Only 23-5A Hendrickson will meet Angleton in the 5A DI Regional semifinals too. “We are excited and this has been an amazing season,” says Cortinas. (HSSMImages/Special)
