(Arlington, Texas)-At AT&T Stadium, the Columbus Cardinals (15-1) defeated Malakoff (15-1) 48-14 to capture its first UIL State 3A DI Football title in school history. Head coach Matt Schobel was proud to watch his son as the Cardinal quarterback Adam Schobel passed for 261 yards with two scores and added another on the ground to lead his team. He was name the NIKE MVP on offense. On defense, his brother, John Schobel kept Malakoff off balance with ten total tackles and three quarterback sacks to earn the NIKE Defensive MVP award.

Many Cardinal fans and players entered the game with plenty of emotions after senior Aleks Medrano died earlier this season due to an illness and did not finish the season. He died October 2nd. He was only 17 years old. His No.62 jersey stood silently on the Cardinal sidelines watching the game. The senior defensive linemen suffered a seizure and went into coma. He never regained consciousness. (HSSMIMages/UIL)
