(McAllen, Texas)- Call it home-field advantage in what was supposed to be a showdown in District 16-5A Division I, instead it was the McAllen Memorial Mustangs (4-1, 2-0) shopping its physical strength by shutting down the Mission Eagles 48-0 at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Mustangs will take the week off from district play and will continue on October 11th in a rival showdown with the McAllen Bulldogs (1-4, 1-1). The Eagles (2-3, 0-2)will play La Joya Palmview (4-1, 1-1) at home on October 11th.

The Mustang defense forced three turnovers while quarterback Kane Coy scored on a 32-yard run and also connected with WR Michael Alaniz for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Running back JP Garza added two scores and rushed for 97 yards on 13 carries for the Stangs. Braxton Speights also had two scores with 100 yards of rushing.
