(McAllen, Texas)-Anytime a player has the opportunity to win the game with two outs and bases loaded, players like senior Max Villarreal left all his jitters at home to get the hit he needed in the bottom of the seventh inning as the McAllen Bulldogs defeated La Joya Palmview 2-1 in the Class 5A Region IV Area Championships on Saturday afternoon. The entire Bulldog dugout raced into the field chasing down Villarreal to celebrate as longtime head coach Eliseo Pompa watched with filled emotions. “This was a great game. Can you believe this. This is baseball,” said Pompa. With the win, the 31-6A Bulldogs will now face rivals, McAllen Memorial in the UIL State 5A Regional Baseball Quarterfinals Championships for the first time in McAllen ISD history in the Best of Three series beginning on Thursday at McAllen Memorial at 7:00 p.m.
