(La Joya, Texas)-At PACK Stadium, the Mission Eagles (1-2) picked up it’s first win of the season over winless La Joya Juarez-Lincoln (0-3) on Friday night, winning 38-14 in non-conference action. The Eagles will play next Thursday night against Brownsville Pace (0-3) while the Huskies will open District 15-5A DI at Rio Grande City.
In the first quarter, it was Mission LB Jeremy Aleman playing havoc as he recovered a Huskies fumble and that turnover led to a 35-yard touchdown pass by QB Diego Salinas to WR Christopher Kirk to make it 7-0. The Huskies again, driving inside the Eagles ten-yard line met up with Aleman and he would force another fumble, frustrating Huskies head coach Mark Gonzalez. The Eagles would add three points to make it 10-0 in the first quarter. On the Huskies next possession, Aleman again, forced another fumble, at their own 40-yard line. Mission RB Thomas Aparicio took the hand off from QB Salinas and he would find daylight for a 40-yard touchdown run to make it 17-0. The Eagles were not finished. Deep in their own territory, Mission RB Muniz took the hand off and rushed for 72-yards to the Huskies 4-yard line. Mission head coach Daniel Longoria made the call to give the ball to Muniz again for the score to make it 24-0. Aparicio would add another before the half as the Eagles led 31-0. The Eagles ended the night with 542 yards in total offense and held the Huskies to 220 yards. (HSSMImages/Ibarra)
