Brownsville Hanna Defeats Weslaco Panthers…
(Brownsville, Texas)-At Brownsville Hanna High School, the Eagles (21-9, 1-1) easily flew past the Weslaco Panthers (11-16, 1-1) on Tuesday night 63-39 in District 32-6A. With the Eagles win, Los Fresnos, Hanna, Weslaco, and Brownsville Rivera are all tied for second place at 1-1 with San Benito holding on to first place at 2-0.
In the first period, the Weslaco Panthers, coached by recent RGV Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Gabe Valdez watched his Panthers trail 20-9 with four three-pointers swooshing the nets. Hanna’s Emiliano Hernandez had two from downtown. The Eagles ended the first half leading 29-21. In the fourth quarter, Post Manrique Cantu guarded his box as the Panthers could only muster six points. Hanna’s Ricardo Roman scored 14 points with Emiliano Hernandez pouring in 15 points to lead all scorers. Jared Zarate added 10 points. (HSSMImages/DeLeon)
