Kennedale Defeats Wheatley 69-65

(San Antonio, Texas)-At the Alamodome, the Kennedale Wildcats (33-7) captured its second state title since 2008 as they defeated Houston Wheatley 69-65. Head coach Doug Groff was overwhelmed as his team celebrated their comeback win. “This is incredible,” said Groff. “What a win and what a comeback.”
It was all Trey Smith in the second half as he finished with 22 points and was named the UIL State 4A DII MVP for Kennedale. “This win feels great. The best feeling ever,” said Smith. The 5’10 junior point guard had ten steals for the night and he also finished with four rebounds. Jacoby Lovings added 16 points for the Wildcats and Bryson Nickerson added another 11 points.
