(San Antonio, Texas)-The Fort Worth Boswell Pioneers are now State 6A Division II Girls Basketball Champions after their win over Fort Bend Hightower, winning 51-42 this afternoon at the Alamodome in San Antonio. “I give all glory to God and our sixth man…the fans,” said Pioneer head coach John Reese. Sydney Duran was named the UIL MVP after posting 17 points with three steals.
This was the second trip to the state championships since 1977 for Pioneer and with three minutes left to play, Reese called timeout to tell his team that “this is our title” and let’s “work the clock.”
At the half, Boswell led 25-18 and held on in the second half by playing defense but the Hurricanes made a run, only to watch their forces end once they came ashore, losing the second half 26-24. Hightower ended the season converting 15-of-47 from the field and making only 4-of-17 from the three-point line. Boswell made 21-of-55 shots and only 4-of-24 from the arch.
