(Arlington, Texas)-Austin Vandegrift (15-1) head football coach Drew Sanders held the UIL State 6A Division II title trophy high and proud as they defeated Southlake Carroll (15-1) 24-17. After 14-seasons with the Vipers, Sanders can call his Vipers UIL State 6A Champions. Vipers junior quarterback Miles Teodecki was nearly perfect on this one day as he passed for 14-of-17 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. He captured NIKE MVP honors. His go-to-guy was WR George Farley. He caught a pass for a 84-yard score to tie the game. He finished with four catches for 134 yards. On the ground, RB Brendan Fournier score twice for the Vipers and he finished the game with 160 yards on 28 carries. Defensively, the Vipers held the Dragons to seven points through three quarters but that did not stop Dragons quarterback Angleo Renda from passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns. WR Brock Boyd had a big afternoon with 178 yards with 13 catches. Still, it was the Vipers defense coming up with the big plays as 26,247 fans watched the Vipers claims its first-ever state title. The Dragons dealt with their woes as they had three punts, two interceptions, one fumble, and one missed field goal. Vipers DB Scott Buchanan was named the NIKE Defensive MVP as he had seven tackles, two pass break ups, and one fumble recovery. (HSSMIMages/UIL)
