(Arlington, Texas)-The Carthage Bulldogs captured its tenth UIL State title in school history by defeating Waco La Vega 28-14 in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A Division II State Football Championships. Bulldogs running back KJ Edwards was unstoppable as he rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns. He was named the NIKE Offensive MVP. Teammate, defensive linemen DAquives Beck had ten tackles with one quarterback sack to capture the NIKE Defensive MVP award. Both teams ended the first quarter scoreless.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs went to work with Edwards breaking loose on a 21-yard run to make it 7-0 after kicker Leo Medrano kicked the extra point. Waco La Vega responded with a score to tie the game but on the Bulldogs next possession, Edwards found daylight on a 86-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7 at the half.
