(Brownsville, Texas)-At Brownsville Veterans Memorial Stadium, quarterback Michael “Storm” Montoya broke the all-time rushing touchdown career record of 56 as the Chargers (4-2) defeated Sharyland Pioneer (4-2) 45-21 on Thursday night. While Montoya was setting new records, it was Chargers running backs Alvin Trevillion (15 rushes 230 yards, including 100-yard run) and Cesar Belmontes (20 carries for 155 yards with one run) running wild as the Chargers rushed 56 times for 545 yards with six touchdowns. Montoya added another 120 yards in the air. “I’m just proud of our team. Storm broke records and our running game was excellent,” said Veterans head coach JC Ramirez. Veterans will play host to the Harlingen Cardinals (4-2) on Friday night in their District 32-6A opener.

The Pioneer Diamondbacks, despite the loss, also showed some promise as they enter District 15-5A Division II this week at home against the Alice Coyotes (3-3) on Friday night. QB William Goodloe rushed 15 times for 119 yards with one score while RB Dylan Tijerina added 12 more carries for 111 yards and one touchdown.
