(Mercedes, Texas)-In District 16-5A Division II, Mercedes High School freshmen, Noah Buenrostro bobbled the football on the kickoff and picked it up, racing 81-yards for a touchdown to put the Mercedes Tigers (4-3, 1-1) up 13-12 over Brownsville Lopez in what proved to be the winning score as the Tigers upsets the Lopez Lobos 41-38 in the McDonald’s Game of the Week on Friday night. “This was an amazing night,” said Mercedes head football coach Roger Adame. “It was an amazing finish too.” Mercedes DB/SS freshmen Frankie Salinas came out of nowhere to make a spectacular interception to seal their victory over Brownsville Lopez (5-2, 1-1). Mercedes was led by RB Robert Sanchez and his five touchdowns with 188 yards rushing, including one interception for the night while Brownsville Lopez HS Eddie Slovak carried the ball 36 times for 234 yards with two touchdowns.

The Tigers will travel to play PSJA Southwest at PSJA Stadium in another key game on Thursday night while the Lopez Lobos will play Friday at 7:00p against winless, Brownsville Porter at Sams Stadium.
