(Pharr, Texas)-At PSJA Stadium, the PSJA North Raiders (7-0, 5-0) and head football coach Marcus Kaufmann defeated District 15-5A Division I rivals PSJA Memorial (3-4, 2-3) 54-0 to remain in first place, tied with Flour Bluff. With the loss, the Wolverines dropped to 2-3 in district play with three games left to play against CC Veterans, Harlingen South, and Donna.
The Wolverines just could not get things going on from the start. It was the PSJA North stingy defense that kept PSJA Memorial head coach Will Littleton (former defensive coordinator at PSJA North) off balanced throughout the night. The Raiders held the Wolverines to 157 total yards with only 58 yards rushing on 33 carries and 99 yards in receiving.
As for the Raiders? They did what they do best. The Raiders rushed for 36 times for 498 yards and six touchdowns. They also added 130 yards passing for the night. Raider running back Ethan Guerra scored on runs of 79, 42, and 21 yards to lead his team. He finished the night with 202 yards. For the season, Ethan now has 1,049 yards rushing. “Ethan did a great job tonight,” said PSJA North Raiders head coach, Marcus Kaufmann. “We just need to finish strong this season.” The Raiders led 40-0 at the half.
The Raiders will meet the Weslaco East Wildcats (6-1, 4-1) on Friday night at home while the Wolverines will travel to play Corpus Christi Veterans (5-2, 4-1).
