(Harlingen, Texas)-What a game! In the McDonald’s Game of the Week featuring the Harlingen Cardinals (2-0) vs Harlingen South (1-1) on Friday night proved to an exciting match-up to the finish as the Cardinals defeated the Hawks 29-24 in non-conference action.

More than 9,000 fans filled Boggus Stadium as they watched Harlingen junior running back Noah Huerta take his first carry of the night for a 56-yard run and he would get the call on the next play to find the end zone. He put the Cardinals up 7-0 with 9:02 left in the first quarter. Huerta ended the night rushing for 218 yards on 24 carries.

It was the Harlingen defense that made even bigger plays with redzone stops as the Hawks struggled early on. The Cardinals held the Hawks to 210 total yards while the Cardinals had 290 yards of total offense. The Cardinals will travel to play Edinburg Vela (2-0) in non-conference action on Friday night while the Hawks will travel to Corpus Christi to meet Flour Bluff (2-0) in their season opener in District 15-5A Division I.
