(Austin, Texas)-Call it a South Texas Showdown! Three teams from Region IV will represent Class 4A, 5A, and 6A in Saturday’s University Interscholastic League’s State Softball Championships. “This is history in the making,” says Weslaco HS athletic coordinator, Roy Stroman. “To have three South Texas-Rio Grande Valley teams in three classifications playing for a state title is huge. Softball just got bigger in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.”
In Class 4A, Calallen (32-2) will defend its title when they meet Liberty (40-2) at 10:00 a.m. while the 32-5A Harlingen South Lady Hawks (35-4) will play Melissa HS (36-2-1) at 1:00 p.m. in Class 5A and after playing thirteen innings to defeat Denton Guyer 5-3 in the semifinals, the 32-6A Weslaco Lady Panthers (36-6) will play Humble Kingwood or Waco Midway at 4:00 p.m. (HSSMImages/UIL)
