(Beeville, Texas)-The Weslaco Lady Panthers (33-6) softball team calls them “The Bomb Squad”. On Saturday afternoon, the Weslaco Lady Panthers dropped Game Two in the Class 6A Region IV Softball Semifinals 4-5 against Austin Lake Travis but roared back in Game Three with the “Bomb Squad” winning 13-2 in the Best of Three series to advance to the University Interscholastic League State 6A Quarterfinals Championships this weekend. The Bomb Squad is made up of Clarissa Mejia, Elizabeth Craig, Romy Nunez, and Ema Glvan, all combine to hit four homers against the Lady Cavs in the final game. In total, nine homers were collected by the Lady Panthers in this series.
With the win, the Lady Panthers will travel to play San Antonio Brennan this weekend in the Best of Three series with the winner advancing to the UIL State Softball Semifinals in Austin, Texas. Brennan defeated Shertz Clemens 7-3 on Saturday to win the series.
The Lady Bears will look to junior pitcher Bryannah Campos to one the series on the mound, who has made 24 appearances this season and has posted an era of 0.94 with a 15-3 overall record and 185 strikeouts. She has given up 67 hits and 47 walks.
