(McAllen, Texas)-In Game Two, McAllen Memorial (22-12) watched their opportunities slip away as Corpus Christi Veterans (24-12) won 12-4 to force Game Three on Saturday. In Game Three, the Mustangs dominated to eliminate CC Veterans 7-5.
McAllen Memorial head baseball coach Roque Cortinas will now lead his Mustangs to the third round for the first time in 34 years as they will face cross-town rivals, McAllen High School in the Class 5A Region IV Quarterfinals this week in the Best of Three series beginning on Thursday with Game One at home. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. “This is incredible,” said Cortinas. “It’s going to be a great series this week against McAllen.” The winner will move on to meet 26-5A champions, Boerne Champion (30-7) or 28-6A runner-up Kerrville Tivy (14-18) in the 5A Region IV Semifinals.
