(Pharr, Tx)-Expect plenty of surprises from the Valley View High School Tigers and second-year head coach, Tony Ayala. Forget about last season’s 1-9 start.
The Tigers will be playing in their final realigned 15-5A Division II conference with Brownsville Porter, Edcouch-Elsa, Mercedes, Gregory-Portland, and Flour Bluff. Changes could be coming in 2024 after the UIL will realign districts.
With nine starters back on offense and six on defense, the Tigers will kickoff its season against rivals, Hidalgo on Friday night, August 25th followed by non-conference games against Doona, Port Isabel, Pioneer, and PSJA Memorial. Players to watch are DE 6’5 David Justice, WR Diego Alvarez, WR 6’3 Luis Olivas, and OL 6’1 Hector Ortiz. Do not be surprised if the Tigers are sitting at 3-2 once District 15-5A DII kickoffs on Thursday night against the Mercedes Tigers on October 6th. The Tigers will face the Brownsville Porter Cowboys (10/14) on the road, followed by a home game against the defending champions, Flour Bluff Hornets (10/20) in district play. (HSSMImages/Ruiz)
