(Brownsville, Tx)-The 15-5A DII Brownsville Porter Cowboys started its season with a 4-0 record last year with wins over Grulla, PSJA Memorial, Donna North, and PSJA South west and then lost their next six games in a row to playoffs teams, Roma, Gregory-Portland, Valley View, Edcouch-Elsa, Flour Bluff, and Mercedes. “We started the season great and I’m proud of our team,” says Uresti. “This year we have to be ready for ten games.”
This season will be a rebuilding year with only 18 lettermen back and four starters on offense, four on defense. Players to watch on offense will be OL 6’3 275lbs Emmanuel Gonzalez and 6’2 270lbs OL Siuifredo Sauceda. Uresti will have to find another quarterback this year and he is looking at QB 5’10 190lbs Kyle Aguirre or QB 6’0 165lbs Alejandro Stevens. Neither prospect brings varsity experience. On defense, LB Cesar Vazquez, CB Gabriel Garcia, FS Adolfo Segura, and FS Dylan Soto will be ready on game day. The Porter Cowboys opens its season against Grulla on Thursday on August 24th.
