(Brownsville, Texas)-The 31-5A Sharyland Rattlers (18-5-2) are headed to the UIL State 5A Soccer Regional Finals after shutting out 28-5A San Antonio Southwest (24-2) 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

With 28:36 left to play, SA Southwest nailed a shot to the net, but it was the wrong net to the backfield, and then it happened, Sharyland’s Jose Sanchez made sure his shot would be a goal-net score to make it 1-0 with 21:15 left to play. Minutes later, Rattlers Jose Sanchez surprised the Dragons with a goal of his own to end the Dragons bid for a state title. “Southwest was very physical,” said Sanchez. “Our coach kept telling us to be patient and wait for the moment. This was our moment.”

The Rattlers will play the winner of 32-5A Brownsville Lopez (21-5-1) or 25-5A Leander Rouse (21-2-2) in the finals on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. For the Rattlers, today’s win was a second in a row at the Brownsville Sports Park in the state playoffs. (HSSMImages/DeLeon)
