(Harlingen, Texas)-High School Sports Magazine’s Numero Uno team, the Harlingen Lady Cardinals, are 9-0 in District 32-6A and with the second half already coming to an end, the Lady Cardinals (21-10) looks dominant entering the playoffs.
Chasing the Lady Cardinals for playoff spots are the Weslaco Lady Panthers (27-8, 5-3) in second place followed by San Benito (23-10) and Los Fresnos (26-9) both tied for third place with 5-4 records.
The Lady Cardinals tipped off their season with a tough schedule. Two straight losses to 27-6A Shertz Clemens (17-16) and Cibolo Steele (24-11) followed by another tournament loss to 7-6A Dallas Highland Park (24-7, 13-0) 54-44 and picked up another non-conference loss to 30-6A Laredo United South (26-6, 7-1). After 12 games, the Lady Cards stood at 6-6 overall.
So far the tough schedule has prepared these Lady Cards as they enter the UIL State 6A playoffs with hopes of returning to the fourth round again. Head coach Ashley Moncivaiz with more than 200 wins, will meet Los Fresnos on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. to end the regular season. (HSSMImages/DeLeon)
