(Pharr, Texas)-On Friday night, PSJA North freshmen running back, Ethan Guerra rushed for three touchdowns as the Raiders (11-0) eliminated Donna High School (7-4) in the University Interscholastic League Bi-District Football Championships at PSJA Stadium 41-7. With the win, the Raiders will travel to play 14-5A DI runner-up, Corpus Christi Miller 10-1 at Cabaniss Field on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. “The Redskins will only get better and my hats off to their coaching staff. We played a good team tonight. Now, we have to get ready for Corpus Christi Miller,” said Raiders head coach Marcus Kaufmann.
The Raiders will have to stop a high-power Miller offense (541 points) led by duo quarterbacks, sophomore 6’0 Trevor Long (1,918 yards passing 18 TDs) and junior Jaedyn Brown (1,727 passing yards 29 TDs). On the ground, the Bucs are just as explosive with running backs Ethan Greenwood (493 yards rushing), sophomore RB 6’0 Corey Holmes (810 yards rushing), and 5’9 sophomore Broderick Taylor (631 yards rushing). “The Bucs are very good team and we will have to play great defense,” adds Kaufmann. Raiders fans will also see WR 6’1 Lonnie Adkism (1,116 yards rec 21 TDs) and 5’10 Jayden Moreno (1,005 yards rec 12 TDs).
In the playoffs, Miller defeated Southwest Legacy 70-14 in the first round and they will have to stop a high-power Raider offense led by junior quarterback Ale Aparicio (1,440 yards passing 605 yards rushing) along with nucleus roster of running backs. In total, the Raiders have rushed 469 times for 3,851 yards. Junior RB Jason Montes leads the team with 1,389 yards along with freshmen Ethan Guerra (809 yards). “I just want to keep playing,” said Aparicio. “We have been talking about making a run in the playoffs.” This will be the Bucs biggest test this season. The Raiders has outscored its opponents 498-93 this season.
The winner will meet Brownsville Veterans (9-2) or Victoria West (6-5) in the Class 5A Division I Regional finals on Thanksgiving weekend.
