(Edinburg, Texas)-Make that three wins in a row as the Edinburg North (5-2, 2-0) Cougars defeated the Mission (1-6, 0-2) Eagles 31-3 to remain in first place in District 31-6A. As for the Eagles? They ended the night on a four-game losing streak. “Our defense played excellent tonight,” says Edinburg North head football coach, Damian Gonzalez. “The game plan was good and our team executed tonight.”

Edinburg North HS RB Ulysses Melendez scored on a 35-yard run up the middle to put the Cougars ahead 18-0 in the second quarter. Melendez would break loose again, on second down and ten yards, this time from 43-yards to put Edinburg North High School up 25-0 in the third quarter. He finished the night with touchdown runs of 5, 25, 35, and 43 yards. He had 12 carries for 178-yards. Sophomore WR Osmar Alanis also had a big night finishing with five catches for 103 yards.

The Cougars ended the night with 254 yards rushing and 114 yards passing and held the Eagles to 126 total yards. Edinburg North will now play at PSJA next Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. while the Eagles will play Edinburg Economedes next Friday.
