(Mission, Texas)-For the second week in a row, the Mission Eagles (1-2) played at home in Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium and notched its first win of the season, winning 34-9 over La Joya Juarez Lincoln (0-3). ”We played well tonight but we need to keep improving each week. That’s what these non-district games are all about,” says head coach Danny Longoria of Mission High School. “Our sophomore quarterback Diego Salinas did a great job tonight but he is learning little by little.”
With the win, the Eagles will play host to winless Brownsville Pace next Friday night in non-district action while the Huskies will be looking for their first win of the season against Rio Grande City (2-1) at PACK Stadium in La Joya on Thursday to open District 15-5A Division I play. “We were up in the first quarter and then gave up a turn over and a couple of big plays to trail 20-9 at the half,” says Huskies first-year head football coach Mark Gonzalez.
