(Edinburg, Texas)-At Richard R. Flores Stadium, Edinburg Vela High School (11-0) QB Chase Campbell spotted PJ Rivera open in the end zone from 28-yards out to give the 31-6A Champions, Sabercats an early 7-0 lead over San Benito High School (8-3) and 5’6″ kicker, Job Juarez nailed a 32-yarder to give his team a 10-7 lead at the half. I thought our defense played very well last night,” says Campbell.
With the win, the Sabercats remains unbeaten at 11-0 and have won five straight bi-district titles under head coach John Campbell. The Sabercats defense proved to be a terror against the Greyhounds as their defensive backs had a great night with three interceptions by Ryan Rodriguez, Miguel Ibarra, and Justin Navarro. In the first half, Josh Garcia blocked a punt attempt by Greyhounds Nic Gonzales to set up a field goal by Juarez. San Benito TE Chris Thrallkill caught a 15-yard pass to tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.
